February 26th: 大刀屻 / 嘉道理農場

The Fridayhikers are a group of friends who go hiking for leisure. Depending on the weather and road conditions, the hiking route may be subject to change without prior notice. Participants joining the hikes do so at their own will and at their own risk. They may consider buying their own insurance for better protection. The hike leaders, the organizers and any other participants in the hikes are exonerated from any liabilities and claims as a result of any accidents or losses arising.

Dear Fridayhikers,

Tomorrow's weather should be good for hiking, cool and cloudy.  Louisa had suggested going to Kadoorie Farm earlier in the week as the weather seemed to be humid and wet, but it had cleared up these few days.

So, a dual route planned for Friday and the choice is yours.  Kadoorie Farm or 大刀屻.   Both will start from Kadoorie Farm.  Those who want to hike the 大刀屻 route ( approx. 4 hour ) can follow these instructions from Oasistrek web page:

Meeting time:  9:00  am

Meeting place:  West Rail 錦上路 Station / Tai Po Station
(Take 64K and get off at Kadoorie Farm)

Please note that the 大刀屻 route will be cancelled if less than three hikers opt for it.  Kadoorie Farm, however, is okay even if just one wants to go.

Bring water and snacks, rain gear, sun gear and clothing to keep warm (early morning may still be cool).

Have fun !

By the way, Kadoorie Farm asks for donation of second hand digital cameras and binoculars for use in their South China farms.

Dear Fridayhikers,

We will go to Chek Keng this Friday.  The weather forecast is for cloudy weather but it will be warm and humid.   We have taken this route many times before and the estimated time to complete the route is about 3.5 - 4 hours.  Please bring enough water, snacks, sun gear, rain gear.  Let us see if the hanging bells will be waiting for us.

Meeting time:  9 am

Meeting place:  Outside MacDonald's at Sai Kung

We will take the village bus which departs at 9:15 am.  Please queue up as soon as you arrive.

I've checked with 安記 and they will be open so we can have lunch there.

As usual, if the thunderstorm signal or any of the heavy rainstorm signal is up at 7:30 am, the hike is cancelled.

See you there !

Happy New Year Fridayhikers !

As discussed at lunch last Friday, we will go to Violet Hill this Friday in search of 吊鐘花.  We will take the Violet Hill Path from Wong Nai Chong Reservoir Park (240m) and walk to Tsin Shui Wan Au (200m) , then turn left to take the Wilson Trail up to Violet Hill (433m) and then walk down to the Parkview, returning to Wong Nai Chung Reservoir Park.  This is estimated to be a 2+ hr. walk. As this is not a long walk and we can take plenty of rest on the way, let's see if the "semi-retired hikers" can come out and join the New Year hike to work off some extra calories accumulated from all that rich food (as seen from photos posted on facebook).

Should it rain tomorrow, we can take instead, the Tai Tam Reservoir Road and walk down to the Tai Tam Tuk Reservoir and exit at Tai Tam Road.

Meeting place:  Wong Nai Chung Reservoir Park  (outside the kiosk and toilets)

Meeting time:  9:15 am

To go to the meeting place, take any bus which goes along Wong Nai Chung Gap Road (6, 61, 63, 41A, etc.) and get off at the Gas Station after the tennis courts.  For bus routes, please check on the web in case there are recent changes.

Please bring water and snacks, rain gear, sun gear as usual.  Should the heavy rainstorm or thunderstorm signal be up at 8 am, the hike will automatically be cancelled.

See you all !

Dear Fridayhikers,

The forecast for tomorrow's weather should be good for hiking.

The route selected is that selected for last week but cancelled due to undesirable weather - the Eastern Nature Trail which goes up from King's Road near Kornhill, up Mount Parker Road, switching to Tai Tam Reservoir Road  and finishing near Parkview. There is an exit at Tai Tam Reservoir for those who want to leave early.  The entire route is about 3 hours.

Meeting place:  MTR Taikooshing Station Exit B

Meeting time: 9:15 am

Please bring sun gear, rain gear, water, snacks and warm clothing (if it turns windy).

I may not join you tomorrow.  Have a pleasant hike !
