January 26th: Kadoorie Farm

The Fridayhikers are a group of friends who go hiking for leisure. Depending on the weather and road conditions, the hiking route may be subject to change without prior notice. Participants joining the hikes do so at their own will and at their own risk. They may consider buying their own insurance for better protection. The hike leaders, the organizers and any other participants in the hikes are exonerated from any liabilities and claims as a result of any accidents or losses arising.

Dear Fridayhikers,

We will go to Kadoorie Farm this Friday.  The Taiwan cherry and the Apricot blossom are in bloom.  We will walk up to the top of the hill towards TS Woo Memorial Pavilion to see the flowers and walk over to the Kadoorie Brothers Pavilion via the Sky Trail (if the trail is open and if the weather is OK) and then walk down .  This will be a 3+ hours walk.

To go to Kadoorie Farm, we will take KMB bus # 64K.

You can get on the bus from Yuen Long West Bus Terminal (about 40 min) , Tai Wo Station (about 15 mins) , Tai Po Market Station (about 30 min) , Kam Sheung Road Station (about 20 min) .  So choose where you want to board the bus.  The station where you should get off is Kadoorie Farm.  The time in parenthesis is the time it takes to go from that station to Kadoorie Farm.

If you get on the bus at Yuen Long or Kam Sheung Road , the stop before Kadoorie Farm is 淩雲寺.  If you get on the bus at Tai Po or Tai Wo, the stop before Kadoorie Farm is  牛欄窩.

The Kadoorie Farm opens at 9:30 am.  Visitors aged 60 and above can enter free.  Others will need to pay $30.

Meeting time:  9:30 am

Meeting place:  Ticket office inside Kadoorie Farm

The forecast is for a few light rain patches in the morning.  So bring rain gear and sun block, plenty of water and camera.   If you should want to buy farm produce, please remember to bring a shopping bag.

Bride's Pool Road (near Wu Gau Teng) to Luk Keng

The Fridayhikers are a group of friends who go hiking for leisure. Depending on the weather and road conditions, the hiking route may be subject to change without prior notice. Participants joining the hikes do so at their own will and at their own risk. They may consider buying their own insurance for better protection. The hike leaders, the organizers and any other participants in the hikes are exonerated from any liabilities and claims as a result of any accidents or losses arising.

Dear Fridayhikers,

We will walk from Brides Pool Road to Luk Keng this Friday.  The trail starts out on Bride's Pool Road near Wu Gau Teng and finishes at Luk Keng where we can have lunch at the small restaurant.  The walk is about 3.5 hours.  The initial section is uphill and we can take more stops on the way up.   (At least I myself will make numerable stops on the way up).   On reaching the fire lookout which is the top point of our trail, we go downhill to Kuk Po and then there is a level stretch along Luk Keng, with a short climb up and then down again to the waterfront.  The last short stretch to the eating place/minibus stop (minibus to Fanling KCR)  is on concrete road without shade.

Hopefully we will see egrets and other winter birds.
Please bring plenty of water, snacks, and sunshade and raingear.

Meeting place:  Minibus 20R at Tai Po KCR Station
(We need to get off once the minibus turns onto Wu Gau Teng Road and walk further up Bride's Pool Road to reach the start of the trail.)

Meeting time:  9 am or earlier  (Minibus departs at 9:10 but there are usually many passengers.   Try to be there early before 9 to queue.  If there are many passengers, they may send an extra bus.  )

There is always a possibility that we cannot all get on the minibus and so the alternative is that we take the more frequent minibus 20C first to Tai Mei Tuk and from there take a taxi to Bride's Pool Road,  or take a taxi directly from Tai Po Station.

ATTENTION:
Whatever mode of transport you take, please meet at the junction of Bride's Pool Road and Wu Gau Teng Road at about 9:40 am and we will start our walk.  Please note that the phone reception at this location is very poor.   We will not be able to communicate by phone at this place.  So we will start our walk after assembling at 9.40 and will NOT wait for any latecomers.

Dear Fridayhikers,

Happy New Year to all !  In view of possible rain patches, we will take a route which offers more exit points.  We will start from Hatton Road up Lung Fu Shan Morning Trail.  A quarter of the way, we will take the path to the right which goes to Pokfulam Reservoir.  From the intersection there, we will walk on to Peel Rise which takes us to Aberdeen.   Apart from the initial uphill walk, the route winds around the hill and has a gentle gradient.   The walk takes about  3+ hours.

Meeting time:  9:15am

Meeting place:  HKU  entrance at  Kotewall Road ( 旭龢道)  (VC Lodge 校長宿舍)

To go to the meeting place, you may take MTR to HKU station (Exit A) and walk up University Drive to Kotewall Road.

Alternative public transport is Bus #13  (terminal at City Hall) and Minibus #3 (terminal at IFC)  which both bring you to Kotewall Road.

Please bring water, rain gear and sun protection.
