The Fridayhikers are a group of friends who go hiking for leisure. Depending on the weather and road conditions, the hiking route may be subject to change without prior notice. Participants joining the hikes do so at their own will and at their own risk. They may consider buying their own insurance for better protection. Dear Fridayhikers,
Friday's forecast is for warm, humid, foggy, cloudy weather. I am planning to take you on a route from HK West to Aberdeen. We start at Po Shan Road (back entrance of HKU), and then walk towards Aberdeen. There are a few exit points: Pokfulam Reservoir, Chi Fu, and then Aberdeen.
The route can be from two hours to three and a half hours. The gradient is gentle and although there are steps, they are manageable.
Different from last time when we took this route, we will not go up Hatton Road but we will first walk along what is called 碧珊徑 , a small trail which Anson once said he remembered walking on when he was at the university. This will lead us back to a trail further uphill winding along the hill behind Pokfulam Reservoir, Queen Mary Hospital, Chi Fu and then reaching Peel Rise to Aberdeen.
Meeting point: Bus 13 terminal (outside VC Lodge 大學校長宿舍) at the junction of Conduit Road, Hatton Road, Po Shan Road and Kotewall Road.
Meeting time: 9:30 am (We will start off at 9:30 am)
To reach the meeting point, there are three ways:
Bus no. 13 (For those coming on MTR, one bus stop is behind HK Bank Head Office on Queen's Road Central, another bus stop on D'Agular Street) Take this to the terminal outside VC Lodge.
Bus no. 13 departs from the terminal at City Hall at 8:42 and 8:56. It takes a few minutes to reach the bus stops listed above.
Minibus no. 3 (minibus terminal beneath IFC opposite Pier 4) Get off at VC Lodge. There may be a long queue in the morning.
Minibus no. 56 or 56 A (outside Hopewell Centre and along Queen's Road East. There's a stop outside Pacific Place opposite Admiralty station) Take this to the terminal and then walk up Kotewall Road to VC Lodge.
Bring enough water, snacks, sungear, rain gear, etc.

ReplyDeleteThanks, Belinda. Please count me in.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Belinda. I will join the hike. However, I have no memory of the small lane 碧珊徑.
ReplyDeleteLast time we walked from Hatton Road to Aberdeen, you remarked that you once walked on a path in your university days but it was not so high up but much closer to Pokfulam Road. I think it is this path which we will be walking on this Friday.
DeleteThank you for the detailed direction, Belinda. See you tomorrow. Shih-ying
ReplyDeleteThanks Belinda. Please count 2 Alice in. See you.

碧珊徑 is a very nice path but not completely finished. There are still slope works going on and laying of water pipes. But it is pleasant and well-hidden. It actually goes from the back of HKU all the way to Queen Mary Hospital (about half an hour's walk). We will walk part of the way and cut back up to the footpath leading to Pokfulam and Aberdeen.
ReplyDeleteFor your information, minibus 56 starts from North Point Marble Road and goes along King's Road, Leighton Road, Queen's Road East, Cotton Tree Drive, Robinson Road.
ReplyDeleteI shall try; transport seems a bit difficult! Rush hour? If you don't see me that means I couldn't make it. Cheers.
ReplyDeleteThere's a minibus 56 on Queen's Road East at Hopewell Centre and another stop closer to St Francis's Street. However I truly do not know the rush hour condition. So let's see if we see you at the meeting point.
DeleteDear Belinda,
ReplyDeletePlease count me in!
