Friday June 3rd: Shing Mun Reservoir

The Fridayhikers are a group of friends who go hiking for leisure. Depending on the weather and road conditions, the hiking route may be subject to change without prior notice. Participants joining the hikes do so at their own will and at their own risk. They may consider buying their own insurance for better protection. The hike leaders, the organizers and any other participants in the hikes are exonerated from any liabilities and claims as a result of any accidents or losses arising.

Dear Fridayhikers,

This Friday will be very hot and sunny with a chance of occasional showers hopefully in the late afternoon only.  Please bring enough water and sunshade.

Because of the hot weather, I propose to go to Shing Mun Reservoir and take a relatively easy walk around the reservoir.

Meeting time:  9 am  (earlier again to escape the heat of the afternoon)

Meeting place:  Exit B  Tsuen Wan MTR Station

Those who wish to do so, may go directly to the minibus stop and meet the group at Pineapple Dam.  Let's estimate to start the hike no later than 9.30 am.

Please check the weather before you venture out.  If the thunderstorm signal or any of the heavy rainstorm signal be up by 7:30 am, the hike is automatically cancelled.

Please bring water, sunblock, raingear, mosquito repellent.

May 20th Tai Po Kau Nature Trail

The Fridayhikers are a group of friends who go hiking for leisure. Depending on the weather and road conditions, the hiking route may be subject to change without prior notice. Participants joining the hikes do so at their own will and at their own risk. They may consider buying their own insurance for better protection. Dear Fridayhikers,

It will be Tai Po Kau Nature Reserve for this week's hike.   There are four trails there ranging from 1 hr to 4 hrs.  As the hiking trails are of different lengths, there can be a choice should the weather be unpleasant.

The weather forecast says the weather will become unstable towards the latter part of the week and I'm not sure if that means Friday.  The forecast as at today is still part sun part cloud on Friday with thunderstorms developing later in the day.  So please check the weather before you venture out in the morning.

Meeting time:  9:15 am

Meeting place:  Tai Po Rail Station taxi stand

Those who wish to group and take a taxi to 松仔園, please wait at the taxi stand.  Those who wish to go by themselves please wait at the starting point of Tai Po Kau Nature Reserve.

Should the thunderstorm signal or any of the rainstorm signal be up by 8 am that morning, the hike is automatically cancelled.   Should less than three enrol, the hike is also automatically cancelled.

Please be well prepared for mosquitoes and wear long sleeves and long pants and use mosquito repellent.  You are also reminded to bring plenty of water, sun gear, rain gear with you.

I have a touch of flu so I may not be joining you this week.  Have fun and enjoy the tree filled reserve.

May 6th: Smugglers' Ridge

The Fridayhikers are a group of friends who go hiking for leisure. Depending on the weather and road conditions, the hiking route may be subject to change without prior notice. Participants joining the hikes do so at their own will and at their own risk. They may consider buying their own insurance for better protection. Dear Fridayhikers,

Tomorrow's route is 5.5 km long and it takes about 2.5 hours to complete.  It starts at Shing Mun Reservoir Pineapple Dam.  So depending on the weather, you may wish to take the usual round the reservoir walk, or take this walk.  This route starts at Pineapple Dam, walk up the road on the right (where we usually come out) and at the reservoir, take the path on the right which is the Maclehose Trail in the direction of Golden Hill Road and Kowloon Reservoir.  You will pass the Shing Mun Redoubt (城門碉堡) and Smugglers' Ridge (孖指徑) on the way before you come to Kowloon Reservoir.  You will come out onto Tai Po Road.

Meeting point:  MTR Tsuen Wan Station Exit B

Meeting time:  9:15 am

Please bring plenty of water, and rain and sun gear.

Please check the weather before you leave home.  If the thunderstorm signal or any of the rainstorm signal is up by 8 am, the hike is automatically cancelled.

I may not join the hike but Anson knows the way.
